Solent Airport closed after ‘pipe bomb’ found
Solent Airport has been closed this afternoon after a ‘suspicious object’ was found.
Fareham Borough Council said the object had been discovered during construction work for the new substation on Swordfish Business Park. Police were at the airport investigating the discovery, and the airport has been closed as a precaution. The police were also in contact with an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team, who later arrived to assess the situation.
As a result, some road closures were put in place, with the public advised to avoid the area.
Council leader Sean Woodward reported the item found looked like a pipe bomb.
