MEET THE TEAM
Founder & Managing Director
BRIMSTONE SITE INVESTIGATION was founded on the 28th June 2016 by former British Army Captain Aaron Florence. Aaron served 15 years with the Royal Engineers and deployed on operational tours to Northern Ireland, Iraq, and Afghanistan, Aaron also completed several exercise around the globe including leading and managing the successful clearance of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) from 24km2 (2400ha) of Belizean real estate; the team and Aaron disposed of several tonnes of UXO to ensure the land handed over to the Government of Belize was clear to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). In addition to the operational tours and exercises, Aaron also operated as the Senior Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Officer and Advanced EOD Operator for the Royal Engineers ensuring the EOD team and Aaron were ready to respond immediately.
Qualified as an Advanced EOD Operator backed up with his training as a Royal Engineer Searcher which includes specialist search equipment and advanced ground penetrating radar (GPR), Aaron and Brimstone will guarantee to provide you with a professional, and knowledgeable service that is backed up by robust integrity.
HEAD OF EOD OPERATIONS
James Heald joined Brimstone Site Investigation as the Head of EOD Operations after serving 24 years with the Royal Engineers, having completed his career as a Squadron Sergeant Major for the largest Squadron in the Royal Engineers, the team and James provided containment solutions to the Civil Power with regards to Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). During his career James deployed on operational tours to Bosnia (4 times) and Iraq, he also completed several exercises globally including the UXO range clearance of Belizean real estate.
On leaving the military, James pursued a career within the UXO Risk Mitigation sector and has added more experience and knowledge to his CV, with specialist knowledge in UXO risk mitigation for solar and wind power sites, James and Brimstone can assist you in providing a robust strategy to help mitigate your UXO risk.
Qualified as an Advanced EOD Operator and Royal Engineer Search Coordinator, as well as holding his Site Safety Supervisor and IOSH qualification, James and Brimstone will undoubtedly add value to your project team.
PRINCIPAL UXO CONSULTANT
Major Ian Jones MBE psc (retired) joined Brimstone late 2016 as the Principal UXO Consultant. A highly qualified and experienced Ammunition Technical Officer and Advanced EOD Operator with over 40 years operational experience including work in Northern Ireland, Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, South Africa, and Belize.
Recently retired from the Metropolitan Police after 18 years’ service as an Explosives Officer working for the Anti-Terrorist Branch dealing with all incidents involving explosives within London, including the safe disposal of a wide variety of conventional munitions located on client sites.
An author of two books, Malice Aforethought about the history of the booby trap from WWI to Vietnam and London, Bombed Blitzed and Blown Up, a history of the bombing of the capital from 1867 – 2005. Ian is also an Explosives Safety Officer for the Durand Group who explore WWI tunnels which still contain mines, explosives, and UXO. He is also a member of the International Ammunition Association, The European Cartridge Research Association, and the British Ordnance Collectors’ Network.
