Safety, sustainability, identity…British construction is constantly adapting to the changing industrial and business landscape. At Brimstone, we kick-started our October by heading to the Kent Construction Expo, joining speakers, industry experts and over 150 other exhibitors to demonstrate how we can be shaping the future ethically, effectively and with confidence.

A Staple Of South-East Construction

The Kent Construction Expo has been shaping the future for 13 years, with contractors, suppliers and industry experts gathering for a multi-track conference programme, centred around networking, innovation and exhibition. From an action-packed schedule of seminars and keynote speakers to ‘Meet the Buyer’ sessions, networking meals to the exhibition hall, this programme is an opportunity for us to tackle upcoming challenges, whatever our specific field.

Constructors, surveyors, architects – anyone whose projects involve groundworks requires UXO services, especially if they’re working within a former military site or high-risk area. Brimstone have been jumping on the opportunity to connect with the construction industry at the annual expo, with this year marking our third time exhibiting. We’ve already booked in for next year, ready to get our thinking caps on and explore how we can be shaping the future for our clients.

Shaping The Future At This Landmark Exhibition

It was going to be a full-on day, so the organisers sparked off the event with a hot breakfast buffet, with developers, contractors and planners getting acquainted over the most important meal of the day. After the food and an introductory address, they introduced their theme of “shaping the future” with a talk on redefining what it was to be a developer, a foretaste of the events scheduled throughout the day.

One of the defining features of the Kent Construction Expo was a wealth of educational seminars, dissecting current challenges, exploring potential routes and coming up with actionable strategies. Marketing, digitisation, navigating sustainability and government regulations all made an appearance, alongside personal stories, such as the experience of a transgender man in the construction industry.

However, this was not a sit-down conference made up of endless scheduled talks – visitors flowed in and out of the main exhibition, populated with people working in interior design right through to experts in surveying and civil engineering. Our time in the exhibition hall was jam-packed, alternating between potential new clients and familiar faces as we discussed our mission to clear sites from lurking UXO.

Going Out In Style

With the official exhibition over, the organisers sent their visitors to a drinks reception, an opportunity to unwind and celebrate but without disrupting the flow of promising new business friendships. Their decision to go out with a gala allowed guests to relax and enjoy a fantastic evening or keep on shaping the future over their three-course meal. As if that wasn’t enough, the first-class food was succeeded with an after-dinner entertainer – Ben Hanlin, magician! Joint laughter, good business and a disco, crowning the end of another successful trade expo.

We’ve relished meeting people face-to-face to discuss our services. We’ve already rebooked for next year, so keep an eye out for tickets for the Kent Construction Expo 2023!
