We’re back and hitting the ground running this January, with our UXO engineers mobilising to over 100 sites across the country over the next few weeks!

As we kick off the New Year, we wanted to take a moment to look ahead to some key areas of work for 2024 and go over how you can get booked in for UXO support with Brimstone this year.

Our plans for 2024

We are looking forward to another year of collaboration, innovation and most importantly, keeping people safe from the risks of unexploded ordnance contamination.

Some of our key plans for 2024 include:

  1. Continuing to expand our in-house teams and pool of UXO engineers to ensure we can meet growing client demands.
  2. Further investment in technology to ensure we are at the forefront of innovation and development in the sector.
  3. Building on our Corporate Social Responsibility Commitment, supporting more local initiatives and charities that support causes close to our hearts.
  4. Continued software development focussed on empowering artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to revolutionise the way we engage with technology.
  5. Development work at RAF Cowden to enable more productive and sustainable business practices onsite.

Continuing our work in Lithuania

2024 will see our team continue work out in Lithuania, where we are undertaking UXO surveys on over 1,300 hectares of land sound of Vilnius.

So far, our engineers have surveyed over 400 hectares of land using our state-of-the-art UAV. The survey data has been reviewed by our technical team at our Head Office in Kent, and any anomalies have been identified and logged for further identification.

Our teams are deploying back out to site shortly, where they will continue this exciting project.

Ongoing risk mitigation at RAF Cowden

We are continuing to manage the UXO risk at the former air weapons range, RAF Cowden.

The coastal area of 275 hectares of land was used from the 1940s as a combined artillery and field firing range prior to transfer to RAF custody in 1955. Thereafter it remained an active range until 1998, when the site was closed down. Despite substantial efforts to manage the UXO risk over the years, thousands of items of ordnance appear on Mappleton Beach each year due to coastal erosion. Our government contract sees us managing the risk on a daily basis and carrying out demolitions to dispose of dangerous items.

We mentioned previously on the blog that the Cowden team have also been working with the RAF, DIO and local authorities to address some of the challenges at RAF Cowden. Keep an eye on our blog and social media posts for updates on this work in the near future.
