Expedited Detailed Risk Assessments Now Available at Brimstone
At Brimstone UXO, we are committed to providing industry-leading UXO risk mitigation services that prioritise safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction. In response to customer feedback and after extensive development by our research team, we are excited to announce the launch of our new Expedited Detailed Risk Assessment (EDRA) service.
This new offering is designed to help clients assess UXO risk faster and more efficiently, providing clear, concise, and actionable insights, without compromising on accuracy or quality.
What is an Expedited Detailed Risk Assessment?
An Expedited Detailed Risk Assessment (EDRA) is a streamlined alternative to our Detailed Risk Assessment (DRA). It is still a Stage 2 UXO risk assessment, adhering to the same rigorous standards, but with a faster turnaround time and a more concise format.
The EDRA prioritises essential risk information over extensive background details, making it easier and quicker to digest. Despite the reduced length and simplified presentation, it offers the same level of accuracy and reliability as a standard DRA.
Key Benefits of an EDRA:
- Faster turnaround time – helping you progress with your project sooner.
- Concise, easy-to-read format – putting the key information front and centre.
- Same cost as a DRA – offering greater efficiency without extra expense.
EDRA vs. DRA: what are the similarities?
Although the EDRA is designed for speed and simplicity, it maintains the same high standards as the DRA. Here’s what both assessments have in common:
- Compliance with CIRIA C681:
Both assessments conform to the CIRIA C681 guidance, the industry standard for UXO risk management in the UK. This ensures you receive a comprehensive and compliant assessment, regardless of the format. - Thorough research process:
Both DRAs and EDRAs are backed by in-depth, manual research conducted by Brimstone’s in-house experts. We never rely on automated systems – instead, we use primary and secondary historical sources and expert analysis to provide accurate, reliable risk assessments. - Consistent risk frameworks:
The risk levels, conclusions, and recommendations in both assessments are based on the same evaluation criteria, ensuring consistency and reliability. - Justified and evidenced risk levels:
Both assessments include fully justified risk ratings, with supporting evidence to give you confidence in the recommended next steps.
EDRA vs. DRA: what are the key differences?
While DRAs and EDRAs share the same rigorous research process, the presentation and format are tailored to different client needs.
- More concise presentation
EDRA: The document prioritises site-specific information and risk conclusions. Supporting background details and UXO industry context are provided in a separate supplementary document, keeping the main report streamlined.
DRA: Includes background information and industry context throughout the document, making it more comprehensive but also longer. - Easier-to-read format
EDRA: The layout is designed for quick reference, with the key risk information presented prominently.
DRA: The risk details are embedded throughout the document alongside background and contextual information. - No figures or maps
EDRA: To keep the report concise, it does not include figures, maps, or images. However, these are still available on request by contacting our commercial team.
DRA: Includes detailed site maps, historical images, and visual data, offering a more in-depth analysis. - Faster turnaround time
EDRA: Delivered faster than a DRA, making it ideal for projects with tight timelines.
DRA: A slightly longer turnaround time due to its comprehensive nature. - New design
The EDRA features a new, streamlined design that prioritises readability and ease of use.

Why choose an expedited detailed risk assessment?
The EDRA service has been designed with our clients in mind, particularly those who need fast, clear, and reliable UXO risk insights without the extensive background content. This makes it ideal for:
- Construction and development projects with tight schedules.
- Planning and pre-construction assessments where rapid UXO risk confirmation is needed.
- Clients who prefer a straightforward, easy-to-digest report with direct, actionable information.
Adam Tanner, Brimstone’s Commercial Manager, explains:
“At Brimstone, we are passionate about identifying opportunities to benefit our clients. The EDRA will enable individuals across the country to progress with their projects quickly and safely, knowing that they are mitigating the risk of UXO and keeping their operatives safe.”
Choosing the right UXO risk assessment
Not sure whether you need a DRA or EDRA? Here’s a quick guide:
- Choose an EDRA if you need a fast, concise, and easy-to-read report that focuses on the core risk details.
- Choose a DRA if you want a more detailed, comprehensive report with background information, maps, and imagery included.
- Consider a Preliminary UXO Risk Assessment (PRA) for an initial overview of potential UXO risk. PRAs offer a 24- to 48-hour turnaround and investigate any military activity on or near your site.
Our commercial team is available to help you decide which assessment best suits your project requirements.
