International UXO operations: continuing our work in Lithuania
Beyond the UK, Brimstone UXO continues to deliver expert risk mitigation services internationally. In Lithuania, we are conducting UXO surveys across more than 1,300 hectares of land south of Vilnius. So far, our team has surveyed over 400 hectares using advanced UAV technology, providing highly detailed data for risk assessment and clearance planning.
Our engineers are preparing to return to site shortly, continuing this vital work to ensure safe land use and development in the region.
Managing UXO risk at RAF Cowden
One of our most significant long-term commitments remains our work at the former air weapons range, RAF Cowden. Used as a military firing range from the 1940s until its closure in 1998, the site continues to present UXO hazards due to shifting coastal conditions. Despite previous clearance efforts, thousands of ordnance items resurface on Mappleton Beach each year, requiring ongoing management and disposal operations.
Under a government contract, our team conducts daily risk assessments and controlled demolitions to safeguard the public and local environment. We also work closely with the RAF, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), and local authorities to address evolving challenges at the site.
